YABA TECH STUDENTS PROTEST, SHUT DOWN SCHOOL

On Thursday,  violent protests erupted in Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, as academic programmes were grounded, while movements were restricted.

The development was as a  result of a protest by the students of the institution, who were expressing their displeasure at an attack on a student by suspected cult members on Wednesday night.
The said victim sustained injuries from machetes cuts inflicted on him by the cultists.

All attempts by policemen to gain entrance into the campus to handle the situation were hindered , as the policemen were turned back at the gate by the students, who held everyone within the campus hostage for hours.
The Dean of Students Affairs, Mr. Omobayo Raheem, later addressed the warring youths, urging them to calm down.
He promised to look into the matter and fish out the culprits.
In the meantime, the student attacked is currently receiving medical treatment at the school’s medical centre.
