FIRE GUTS DOWN SHOPS WORTH MILLIONS OF NAIRA IN SOKOTO STATE

Traders of the Sahara Area of Sokoto State woke up recently and saw the magnitude of damage done to their shops by a furious fire. No fewer than 15 shops that contained automobile spare parts worth millions of naira were completely razed by the inferno.

Sahara area is one of Sokoto’s commercial hubs, and it is dominated by Igbo traders who deal mostly in automobile spare parts and other vehicle accessories, either new or fairly used. The inferno, according to eyewitnesses, had started at about 2:00 am on the fateful day.

The victims had gone to bed and were therefore caught unawares. The fire razed all the shops in the area before men of the Sokoto State Fire Service were contacted.  The fire disaster was believed to have started from a private room of a tenant attached to one of the affected shops.

Some residents of the area claimed that the incident may not be unconnected with some inflammatory materials stored within one of the affected shops.
