EX CBN GOVERNOR SANUSI LAMIDO'S EMERGENCE AS THE NEW EMIR OF KANO SPARKS PROTEST

The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, has emerged as the new Emir of Kano after the throne became vacant on Friday following the monarch’s death.

The Secretary to the Kano State Government, Rabiu Bichi, announced the name of the new Emir on Sunday.
His appointment was approved by Kano State Government.

Meanwhile,   residents took to the streets to protest  in Kano following the announcement.

The protest started at the Kofar Kudu area, near the Emir’s palace when residents of the neighbouring streets trooped out to the palace area in opposition to the choice.


Tyres were set on fire and few roads blocked as they shouted, "Ba muso, ba muso’’, meaning, "we don’t want, we don’t want" in apparent reference to the choice of Sanusi by the state government.
