WHEN WILL JUNGLE JUSTICE IN NIGERIA STOP?

I sat on the passengers seat while a a guy friend of mine drove. While in motion, he almost knocked down a young man trying to cross the road and I screamed .
Luckily, noting happened. But I had to caution him reminding him that we would  not have gotten to our destination if we indeed knocked the guy down , and his response was shocking.

He said to me, '' Wait Chidinma, did you think I'd stop if I actually knocked the guy down?'' Of which I replied, yes you will have to stop . It is simply not right to knock someone down and keep moving ( My eyes were rounded and popping at this point, imagining how people could be so mean).
He laughed and said, '' My dear , don't stop when you knock someone down ooo''. ''If your conscience pricks you hard enough , drive to a police station and report the case, then return to the scene with the police officers, so that you do not get mobbed and killed''.
''If you discover the person is dead and lifeless, maybe just drive away''.

Now, I began picturing my friend driving as some mean dude, but later saw a point in what he was trying to say.
In Naija, people are ready to kill you and set you ablaze on the streets ( Jungle Justice) at any slight suspicion, provocation or mistake that has to deal with theft, kidnap, etc.
Is this right? Should'nt the government intervene?
Are individuals qualified to actually take laws into thier own hands?

Yesterday a woman was set ablaze in Abule Egba, Lagos suspected of trying to kidnap 2 school kids., and today another mob killing took place in Akure, Ondo state. The man they burnt to death at Adegbola junction in Akure was allegedly found with a child…some claimed the child was found dead, others said the child wasn’t dead, but everyone agreed that the man was either mad or pretended to be mad. They beat him and set him ablaze.

This is wrong ooo!
