The deputy Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly Mr Valentine Okike-Uzor, was yesterday impeached by the House for misconduct and improper dressing.
It was reported that the deputy speaker was impeached and suspended for alleged misconduct, causing disaffection among members, gossip and insubordination and improper dressing that had portrayed the House in bad light. Usulor, representing Ezza South State Constituency, moved the motion for impeachment accusing the deputy speaker, Okike-Uzor.
He also alleged that the the deputy speaker was in the habit of moving from one office to another reporting leadership of the House, causing disaffection and plotting to impeach the leadership of the House. His motion was seconded by Frank Onwe and immediately, Blaise Orji representing Afikpo North was voted in to succeed Okike-Uzor as the deputy speaker. Efforts made by Daily Sun to hear Okike-Uzor’s own side of the story was unsuccessful.
The House, since its inauguration in 2011, has been enmeshed in series of impeachments and suspensions of its members since the seventh session where the Speaker, Ikechukwu Nwankwo, was impeached and given a long suspension and was only recently recalled. while a female lawmaker representing Ivo State Constituency.
