PICTURES FROM THE AFRICAN CUP OF NATIONS 2013 OPENING CEREMONY







Upbeat rhythms from across the continent and multi-coloured dancing brought the crowds to their feet despite downpours in a lively 2013 Africa Cup of Nations opening ceremony today Saturday Jan. 19, 2013.


Four groups danced to the middle of the pitch at the 93,000-capacity Soccer City stadium in Johannesburg, meeting and embracing around giant puppets.

 Popular and talented South African singer Lira performed during the opening ceremony .  The African Cup of Nations kicked off  with host South Africa playing Cape Verde, and Morocco facing Angola.

Soccer fans braved the wet weather to attend the opening ceremony.
