A 17-year-old senior secondary school prefect, has slumped and died after being punched by a junior student who wore a mysterious ring, according to the Anambra State Police Command.
The Command had since commenced investigation into circumstances surrounding the death of the student of Modebe Secondary School, Onitsha, identified as Chukwuebuka Okanume.
The deceased was said to have queried his assailant, an SS1 student over his dressing. But the junior student was said to have told him that he was no longer a student of the school, that he only came for his transfer certificate to Asaba, Delta State capital, where he and his parents had relocated.
A heated argument however ensued between them, resulting in the late senior prefect slapping the junior student, who was said to have retaliated, wearing a charmed ring.
The senior prefect slumped and was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was confirmed dead.
The junior student had since been arrested by the police. He is now being interrogated by men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), to ascertain the source of the ring.
Principal of the school, Mr. Ralph Machie confirmed the incident, but declined further comments.
State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Uche Ezeh, also confirmed the incident, and said investigation was going on.
