When I have discussions with some friends of mine about Nigerian pop culture, it is always hilarious.
During one of such discussions, we wondered why Dencia's Whitenicious toning cream was being criticised , when in actual fact, most Nigerian men prefer lighter skinned ladies. My dark skinned friend is almost unrecognisable turning almost white thanks to creams, and the number of men who hit on her are more ( in her opinion) compared to those who did when she had a dark complexion . As I write this post, she currently engaged .
Truth be told forget brains, men , even Nigerian men are attracted to the exterior .They want a good woman, but she has to be attractive enough to gain complements from their friends , family and well wishers which helps boost their ego and highlights the fact they got good eyes and taste.
Take Oba Lamidi Adeyemi 111,the current Alaafin of Oyo for instance. All his wives are light skinned (but why? lool) . Does this mean in the whole of Oyo Kingdom, there are no cute dark skinned ladies for him take as wife?
Yet everyone complains about chics skin toning , bleaching etc when indeed women do it in the name of being more attractive and ''being seen''. Should they (ladies who bleach or tone) be blamed?
Note: I am dark skinned by the way , not tonguelashing or hating on any skin tone or color. #Foreverchocolateandproud# Wink.
