A British girl has died after being horrifically savaged at home by her family's pet dog.
Lexi Hudson, who was just 4, was reportedly picked up and "shaken like a rag doll" by the French mastiff on Tuesday at her apartment in Mountsorrel in Leicestershire, England.
The dog said to be a rescue dog was owned by the family for weeks before the incident and got on well with Lexi.
Her mother Jodi tried to rescue her daughter by stabbing the dog, but it was too late.
Family friend Paul Ryan said the dog, which died minutes after the incident, had been "safe around children" and that Lexi "was always playing with it."
"She (Jodi) would never have dreamt in a million years that something like this could have happened," he added.
